Bukit Asam to develop power plant

The state-owned coal mining firm PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam will develop a coal-fired power plant early next year in cooperation with an Thailand investor, South Sumatra?s Sriwijaya Post daily said.
The paper quoted company official Dadan Ruswandana as saying that total investment needed for the project was US$250 million.
No details of the project were mentioned by the paper.
But it said that other company new projects included plan to produce liquid coal, and upgrading the Tanjungenim facility in South Sumatra.
Elsewhere, the paper said that as of November 2001, total company coal production reached 10.6 million tons, of which 6.1 million tons are allocated for the Suralaya power plant in West Java, and the remaining for the export market in Japan, Spain, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Bukit Asam operates coal mines in South Sumatra and West Sumatra provinces.(*)
