IDX-listed coal giant PT Bumi Resources Tbk has started development of a fuel storage tank at a concession of its subsidiary PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) in East Kalimantan, a project the firm expects to help reduce cost, Kontan reported on Wednesday.
The paper said that ground breaking for the project was held on June 10.
The 75,000-meter cubic tank is being developed by PT Petro Sorindo Energi, a joint venture between the Bakrie Group and BP. The facility is expected to be completed in 2016.
According to Bumi Corporate Secretary Dileep Srivastava, the company?s diesel fuel consumption is about 900 million liters per year, much of which consumed by KPC. ?We?re the largest fossil fuel consumer in (Indonesia?s) private sector,? he said, adding that the tank facility is expected to save cost as fuel accounts for about a third of the company?s total costs.
