Bumi reports higher Q3 coal output, sales

Wednesday, November 15 2006 - 05:46 AM WIB

PT Bumi Resources said Tuesday that coal output from its Kalimantan coal mines operated by subsidiaries Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) and Arutmin Indonesia increased to 13.7 million tons in the third quarter of the year from 11.7 million tons in the previous quarter.

Its coal sales also increased to 12.6 million tons in the third quarter of the year, from 11.6 million tons in the previous quarter, Bumi said in a presentation.

Bumi?s cumulative output for nine months until the end of third quarter 2006 is 36.2 million tons.

Bumi said that in the first nine month of 2006, its mining units faced obstacles including a higher production cost, caused by increasing fuel price, as well as unusual high rain during the first semester.

Earlier, Bumi estimated its coal sales and production could reach 62 million tons in 2007, compared to this year?s production target of around 51 million tons.

In 2005, both KPC and Arutmin produced 45 million tons.(denny)
