PT Bumi Resource, the country's largest coal producer, will increase thermal coal production by about 20 percent this year to about 53.6 million tons to take the advantage of the growing demand from both domestic and overseas markets, Neraca reported Friday.
The company's investor relations, Peter Tabalujan, said that Bumi's units PT Kaltim Prima Coal and PT Arutmin Indonesia, produced about 44.7 million tons of coal in 2005, or about 28 percent higher than the previous year.
Quoting Bloomberg report, Neraca said that Bumi's 2006 production target would be the highest level ever achieved by the company. In 2005, the coal production exceeded the company's own target.
Bumi, according to Peter, has secured a contract to export about 21 million tons to Japanese buyer. The company also sells coal to meet the demand from local buyers. (*)
