Bumi targets E. Kalimantan power plant to be on stream this year

IDX-listed giant coal mining firm PT Bumi Resources Tbk aims to start operating its 3x18 MW coal-fired power plant in Sangatta, East Kalimantan Province, this year.

The company's Director and Corporate Secretary Dileep Srivastava told Petromindo.com on Tuesday that the first unit of the power plant has now entered the commissioning stage and is in the process of stabilization process to be on stream. "The unit two is expected to be commissioned in March 2017," he said. While for the third unit, according to Dileep, it is expected to be commissioned in September 2017.

"We are targeting to operate all the three units of the power plant this year," he said. The 3x18 MW coal fired power plant is developed under a built-operate-transfer (BOT) arrangement. Dileep revealed that the power produced by this power plant mostly will be consumed by KPC, a coal mining unit of Bumi. While the rest will be sold as excess power and for corporate social responsibility purposes.
