IDX-listed coal giant PT Bumi Resources Tbk is targeting to operate the first unit of its coal-fired power plant with total capacity of 3x18 MW in Sangatta, East Kalimantan, in January 2017.

The company's Director and Corporate Secretary Dileep Srivastava told Petromindo.com on Thursday that the first unit of the power plant has now entered the commissioning stage.

"Our 3x18 MW coal-fired power plants under a BOT arrangement are in their final stage, out of this, 1 unit is already commissioned in KPC," he said, referring to its East Kalimantan coal subsidiary PT Kaltim Prima Coal. "For the first unit it?s already stabilized, so I believe in January 2017 it should have been on stream," he said, adding that the other two units of the power plant are expected to be on stream in 2017. Dileep, however, didn't specify the exact time when the two units to be on stream.

Dileep revealed that the electricity output from the power plant mostly will be consumed by KPC. While the excess power will be sold and for corporate social responsibility purpose.
