Bureau Coal urged to contribute more to community development

East Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Berau Coal has been urged to give greater contribution to the welfare of the local community, local daily Kaltim Post reported on Wednesday.

Burau regent Masdjuni, speaking in a meeting on large companies? contribution on Tuesday, demanded for an increase in the amount regularly received by the regency from Berau Coal through the East Kalimantan provincial administration. .

Masdjuni said the Burau Coal?s coal mining projects in the regency currently cover 121,589 hectares of land.

Earlier reports said Bureau Coal produced 6.8 million tons of coal in 2001.

The company is 60 percent owned by heavy equipment maker United Tractors. (*)
