Two business groupings in East Kalimantan: the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) and the Chamber of Trade and Industry (Kadin) met with the provincial parliament on Wednesday to make a complaint against the SBSI labor union, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.

The meeting was attended by parliament Speaker Sukardi Jarwo Putro.

Kadin said that the government should review the existence of SBSI in the province because labor demonstration organized by the union had always created unrest.

It also accused SBSI officials as provocateurs.

Apindo appealed to the House to push the government to uphold the supremacy of the law to protect businesses against destructive demonstration and the blockade of company assets.

The complaint was made as coal mining company PT Thiess might have to shut down its operation in Sangatta after its employees, backed up by SBSI, held a strike demanding higher salary.

Oil and gas company Vico Indonesia is also currently facing problems with the employees of its sub contractors who had blockaded the main entrance into the company.

The SBSI labor union had organized the employee protest that led to the road blockade. (*)
