The provincial government of North Kalimantan revoked on Thursday the business permit of PLN Tarakan, a subsidiary of state-owned electricity firm PT PLN, transferring the permit to the parent firm.
North Kalimantan Governor Irianto Lambrie said a statement published by the provincial administration?s website that the move is expected to allow households in Tarakan to also enjoy government electricity subsidy as those enjoyed by households in other parts of the country.
He added that by transferring PLN Tarakan to the PLN Head Office, it would help resolve the frequent blackout problem in Tarakan.
Irianto said that there will be a transition period of up to six month, as the transfer of the IUP permit should be approved by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. He, however, hopes that process to be completed by early next year. (*)
