Buyers from Japan, Korea interested in Tangguh LNG

Upstream authority BPMIGAS said that potential buyers from Japan and South Korea are interested in purchasing LNG cargoes from Tangguh LNG plant which have been diverted from original buyer Sempra Energy.

?The potential buyers are in the process of negotiation on the price. But at present, the price is being influenced by Japan?s plans to revitalize its nuclear power plants,? BPMIGAS Chairman R. Priyono told reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony commemorating the agency?s 10th anniversary on Monday.

Tangguh LNG has long-term contract to sell 3.7 million tons per annum of LNG to Sempra. But earlier this year, BP Plc, the operator of Tangguh LNG project in west Papua, and Sempra had reached an agreement that allows the former to divert 54 cargoes out of 60 cargoes intended to be shipped this year to Sempra?s Costa Azul LNG receiving terminal in Mexico.
