C. Kalimantan issues 35 mining licenses for locals

The Central Kalimantan provincial administration by December 2001 had issued 35 mining licenses for locals , Banjarmasin Post daily reported on Friday.
The 35 licenses were effective for 15 mining areas in Central Kalimantan, Banjarmasin Post quoted as saying provincial governor Nahson Taway.
Nahson said by December 2001 nearly 7,000 illegal gold mining units were found in four regencies in South Kalimantan.
The governor added he had yet to receive reports from the province?s regents on the most recent data of area miners. According to existing laws, the regents has the authority to issue licenses for local miners. (*)
