The Central Kalimantan provincial administration and house of representatives (DPRD) are continuing deliberating draft regulations on mining which allow local enterprises and individuals to carry out mining activities, South Kalimantan-based Banjarmasin Post daily reported on Tuesday.
DPRD member Hang Ali Saputra Syah Pahan said on Monday the draft regulation for instance allowed the Central Kalimanan people to own and exploit mineral resources on land measuring five hectares each. Cooperatives and business companies could own 250 hectares and 5,000 hectares respectively, Hang Ali said.
The draft regulation, which was being debated in a special council committee, also entailed that the government must involve district and village heads in processing mining licenses, Hang Ali said. (*)
