PT Cahaya Modern Metal Industri is developing a second nickel pig iron smelter in North Konawe regency, Southeast Sulawesi, targeted for completion end of next year.

To support the smelter, which will have the same capacity of 1,000 tons per month as the first smelter, located in Konawe regency, the company will develop a 15 MW coal-fired power plant.

?In the second smelter (project), we?re already using electricity although only for blending,? said Joseph Renyut, an advisor at Cahaya Modern to Petromindo.com earlier this week.

Investment for the project is estimated at around US$30 million, he added. Cahaya Modern operates nickel mines in Konawe and North Konawe regencies.
