PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) has adjusted all the monthly wage level to the new regional wage standards introduced by the government recently, Riau Pos daily reported on Friday.
The new monthly wage level, which began effective on April 1, was not only applied to Caltex workers but also those of the oil giant's contractors, the company's acting manager for communications and media relations Dwi Pujosurtisno.
He said under the new wage standard, the minimum monthly salary of non-staff workers was raised from Rp 322,500 to Rp 397,000 while the minimum monthly salary of the staff workers was raised from Rp 486,000 to Rp 558,000.
The minimum transportation allowance for workers of Caltex contractors was also raised to Rp 82,500 per month from Rp 66,000 previously, he said.
The new wage standard was based on recommendations made by a human resource consultant especially assigned by Caltex to determine the minimum wage standard for oil and gas workers in the Riau province.
Raising the minimum wage standard was important as part of efforts to improve the welfare of the people, he said, hoping that the higher wage standard would encourage the workers to improve their works in the overall exploration and production activities. (*)
