Caltex against high increase in pay for oil workers

American oil and gas company PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia called on Thursday on the Riau provincial administration not to impose a significant rise in the minimum pay for workers in the oil and gas sector.

Caltex's corporate human resources official Is Nugroho said on Wednesday the company would abide by the governor's decision on the rise in the minimum salary, but warned that the company would file complaints if the rise was too much.

"We shall abide by the governor's decision on the rise in the minimum pay, but if the rise was too burdensome, we shall file complaints," he was quoted by local daily Riau Post as saying.

When confronted with rumors that the governor would decide to raise the minimum pay by 31 percent, Is said: "I think a 31 percent rise in the minimum pay is too high."

He however did not specify the acceptable increase in the minimum pay. (*)
