Caltex closes road passing through its complex in Pekanbaru

US Chevron-Texaco Indonesian subsidiary PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) has closed the Rumbai-Minas bypass that passes through its complex to the public, apparently for security reasons, Antara reported on Monday.
Many people have been using the road as a shortcut, especially when heading to Minas or Perawang from Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau province.
The main gate to the plant is now also blocked by concrete blocks and barbed wire.
Teachers and students from a school that is located within the Caltex compound are not allowed to enter through the main gate ut instead have to go through a special entrance.
A number of local residents have voiced complaints about the company's closing of the bypass and its conducting of checks on cars entering the compound. (*)
