Caltex interested to acquire Sumatra exploration blocks

PT. Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI), a subsidiary of US oil giant ChevronTexaco said Monday it was considering to acquire more exploration acreage(s) and was considering to enter into Indonesia?s exploration blocks bidding round which was opened early February.

?We are interested to acquire more exploration acreage in Sumatra. But no final decision had been made yet, since deadline for bidding submission is still in July,? said company president Humayunbosha.

Government offered 11 exploration blocks in the first round of 2003, 2 of them, Merangin I & II onshore, are located in Jambi and South Sumatra.

CPI is currently the largest Indonesian oil production from its contract areas in central Sumatra. The company also has one exploration block, Kisaran PSC in North Sumatra that it acquired in 2001. (godang)
