Caltex mulls acquiring new oil block in E. Java

US oil producer PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) is looking into the possibility of acquiring a new oil exploration block in East Java, company president director Humayun Bosha said Monday.

The block was one of the new oil and gas exploration areas offered in the province, Humayun said. He did not mention the name of the block however.

The government had planned to offer 10 new oil and gas exploration blocks in different parts of Indonesia including three in East Java. Government officials also did not identify the East Java blocks.

CPI is Indonesia?s largest oil producer operating oil fields in Riau.

Meanwhile, a government source said that US oil giant ExxonMobil Corp. could also be interested in one of the new East Java blocks. (godang)
