Caltex overwhelmed by lootings of its assets

Caltex Pacific Indonesia said that it has been overwhelmed by continued lootings of its assets by the local residents, Riau Global Online reported on Friday.

The company?s vice president for the Duri production unit, Suwito Anggono said in Pekanbaru that looting almost took place every day, causing the company to financial losses of billions of rupiah.

?Looting, theft or stealing almost take place every day, even every hour, causing the company to lose billions of rupiah,? he said, adding that in July this year alone, there about 184 cases of looting in the company?s production sites such as in Bekasap and Petani.

?In the Bekasap area alone, the number of thefts reached 719 cases during the January-July period,? he said. According to him the financial loss caused by the looting in the Bekasap area reached RP 8.5 billion in the last seven months.

The economic crisis, which has hit the country since early 1998, has resulted in sharp increases in crimes in the country. Many plantation and mining companies have been hit by looting. The thieves take any thing that could be sold from the companies. (*)
