Caltex suspected of marking up tender

State oil and gas firm Pertamina said on Monday it is awaiting reply from PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (PT CPI) on the indication of tender mark up for the maintenance of submersible pumps, Republika daily reported Tuesday.

The spokesman for Pertamina?s Production-Sharing Management, A. Siddick Natakusuma, said on Monday PT Inti Jatam Pura (PT IJP) had won the tender for submersible pipeline service and maintenance for US$230 million, up from the $130 million benchmark PT CPI had agreed with Pertamina.

?Because of indication of irregularities, Pertamina and Caltex is currently reviewing the contract and the winner is not yet final,? Siddick said.

Pertamina, via PT CPI, offered the submersible pumps service and maintenance tender, which covered its northern and southern oilfields.

Aside from PT IJP, two other bidders also took part in the tender, namely PT Reda Pump Indonesia (RPI) and PT Mulia Graha Abadi (MGA). PT CPI declared PT IJP winner of the bid.

Meanwhile, PT CPI spokesperson Renville Almatsier said separately that his company and PT IJP actually had not reached final agreements on the tender. Negotiations between them were underway, Renville said.

Renville said PT CPI had received bids only from PT IJP and PT RPI because PT ESP withdrew from the tender.

He said PT RPI had won the tender worth $152.059 million for the southern part of PT CPI?s mines. The director of Pertamina?s Production-Sharing Management had already approved the tender outcome, Renville said.

Accordingly, said Renville, PT RPI would not be allowed to take part in the tender for the northern mines as stipulated by existing contract regulations. (*)
