PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI), and state owned oil and gas company Pertamina have agreed to jointly explore and produce natural gas in the western part of Jambi province, Kompas daily reported on Monday.

The agreement was signed by Caltex president Humayunbosha and the director for Pertamina's operation and production Gatot K. Wiroyudo in Jakarta last week.

Caltex said that the cooperation was part of the oil giant's strategy to expand the use of the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in its old oil wells in Riau province.

The gas to be produced from Jambi will replace crude oil, which is currently used by Caltex in its EOR operation. (*)
