Cars produced from 2005 may be barred from using subsidized fuel

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Z. Saleh has sent a letter to Coordinating Minister of the Economy Hatta Radjasa, proposing that privately-owned four or more-wheeled cars produced in 2005 and beyond be forbidden from using subsidized fuels.

In the letter, whose copy was made available to Petromindo.com on Tuesday, Darwin proposed the new policy be implemented starting Sept. 1, 2010.

The new policy will reduce consumption of subsidized petroleum-based fuels by 2.3 million kiloliters, according to Darwin. (Godang)
