The government is currently revising the country?s gas balance to include non-conventional gas production such as coal bed methane (CBM) and shale gas.
Director of Oil and Gas Program Development at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Naryanto Wagimin said Tuesday that both CBM and shale gas have yet to be included in the gas balance because of their limited production.
He pointed out that out of the 54 CBM production sharing contractors, only 1-2 have started production, while shale gas development in the country has just begun.
Naryanto said that the revised gas balance will update the gas demand and supply outlook for the next two years, as well as gas infrastructure map. He added that the gas balance will be revised every year to accommodate latest developments.
