The Indonesia Cement Association said that the country?s cement producers need about 7.5 million tons of coal in 2012, mostly low rank coal with only less than 10 percent of the supply coming from the small-scale coal mining operating nearby the cement companies.
Most of the supply would be coming from the domestic market obligation (DMO) scheme.
The association chairman Urip Timuryono said that the increase of consumption from 6.2 million tons consumed last year was due to the increase of capacity by two factories namely Gresik and Tonasa this year.
?The maximum amount of coal consumption for cement factories would be 7.5 million tons this year,? he told Petromindo.Com Tuesday.
He said that the total production capacity of cement factories would increase to about 60 million tons from last year?s total of 52 million tons.
Indonesia has nine cement producers namely PT Semen Andalas Indonesia in Aceh; PT Semen Padang in West Sumatra; PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, Tbk operating in West Java and South Kalimantan, PT Holcim Indonesia in West Java and Central Java; PT Semen Gresik in East Java; PT Semen Tonasa in South Sulawesi, PT Semen Bosowa Maros, South Sulawesi; PT Semen Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara.
