The Central Java administration is formulating an oil and gas regulation to ensure that the local authority will receive a fair distribution from the province?s oil and gas production, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Monday.
The head of the province?s energy and mineral resources Eddy Haryono said in Semarang over the weekend that the oil and gas law currently applied by the central government did not involve provinces at all. "That?s why we don?t know the exact amount of oil or gas produced by a company in a province," he added.
According to him, although ExxonMobil has been reported to have major oil reserves in the province, the local government does not know the exact amount of the company?s production level.
He said that the regulation, which is now being drafted involving not only the province?s energy officials but also experts and the private sector, will be soon submitted to the local legislative council. (*)
