Central Kalimantan's coal potentials reach 491 million tons

Coal mining potentials in Central Kalimantan reaches 491,016,648 tons, according to Central Kalimantan governor Asmawi Agani.

Meanwhile, there are 18 coal mining companies operating in the province based on coal mining exploitation agreement (PKP2B), with a total concession acreage of 1,441920 hectares. They have invested a total of Rp 2.79 billion and US$1.4 million.

Asmawi said that the more companies operate in the province the more potentials could be exploited, and the more income they would bring to local administrations and local people.

Asmawi, represented by his deputy Nahson Taway, presented three third generation PKP2B documents to three mining companies: PT Juloi Coal, with concession area of 192,340 hectares, PT Ratah Coal with 99, 340 hectares and PT Lahai Coal wiht 98,230 hectares. The there companies would explore for coal in North Barito district.

In his written address read by Nahson, Asmawi said that the third generation PKP2B governed all mining issues pertaining to legal aspects, technical aspects, environmental management, finance, procurement of goods and services, export and marketing of products and other national interests.

Asmawi called on the new mining companies to heed all regulations in the district where they operate and also respect the rights of local people to prevent possible future conflicts.

He also called on the three companies to bring as many benefits as possible to local people and local administrations with their presence, including by recruiting capable local people. (*)
