Publicly listed coal trader Central Korporindo International (CNKO) has submitted a proposal to state power firm PLN to build a mine-mouth power plant with capacity of 30 megawatts (MW) in East Kalimantan, a PLN official said Monday.
"We have received their application letter and are studying it," PLN?s primary energy and marketing director Ali Herman Ibrahim told reporters. He provided no detail.
Meanwhile, earlier reports said that CNKO also had planned to build two coal-fired power plants in South Kalimantan with combined capacity of 35 MW. This project would cost US$35.5 million and would last one year starting in January 2004.
PLN will buy electricity from the power plants for consumers from several districts like Pangkalan Bun, Sampit and Batu Licin.
CNKO officials said the company had planned to switch its core business from coal trading to power generation. (godang)
