IDX-listed PT Central Omega Resources Tbk said it is teaming up with China?s diversified group Macrolink in building a ferronickel smelter in Morowali, Central Sulawesi.
Central Omega said in a statement Tuesday that Macrolink through its Indonesian subsidiary PT Macrolink Nickel Development has acquired a 40 percent stake in Central Omega subsidiary PT COR Industri Indonesia, which is developing the smelter. The company did not disclose the acquisition value.
Central Omega added that it has signed an MoU with PT Macrolink to develop smelter blast furnace with a capacity of 300,000 tons of ferronickel per year, and smelter rotary kiln electric furnace with a capacity of 200,000 tons of ferronickel per year.
In the first stage, a smelter with a capacity of 100,000 tons of ferronickel would be built, hoping it could begin operation in early 2016.
