Ceria to launch first ferronickel production in 2025

PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama, a nickel mining company, has announced plans to begin its first ferronickel production in 2025.

Abdul Haris Tatang, President Director of Ceria, stated that the Merah Putih Smelter Plant in Wolo District, Kolaka Regency, is in the final stages of operational preparation and will soon begin operations.

“2025 will mark a significant milestone for Ceria. After overcoming many challenges, we are now ready to start our first ferronickel production,” Tatang said, as reported by Nikel.co.id.

He also expressed gratitude to the team and stakeholders for their support, which has contributed to this achievement.

Tatang emphasized Ceria’s commitment to producing high-quality “green nickel” while maintaining a focus on environmental sustainability. He reiterated that the company fully adheres to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across all aspects of its operations.

“For us, applying ESG principles is not just an option—it’s essential. We must ensure environmental sustainability so that the business can offer long-term benefits to both the industry and surrounding communities,” he added.

In line with its green energy strategy, Ceria has partnered with state-owned electricity provider PT PLN (Persero) to supply clean energy to the Merah Putih Smelter. Since October 2024, the 60 MW Nusantara II Barge-Mounted Power Plant (BMPP), powered by diesel and gas, has been supplying energy to the facility, part of Ceria’s broader effort to build a more environmentally-friendly industrial future.

“One of Ceria’s key missions is to implement sustainable business practices. We strive to adopt the best ESG practices across our operations,” Tatang said.

While acknowledging that the transition to green energy requires significant investment, Tatang emphasized that sustainability is key to creating an industry that benefits both society and the environment.

“We believe that sustainability is critical to building an industry that brings long-term benefits to both the environment and local communities,” he concluded.
