India?s leading conglomerate Avantha Group Company CG announced on Thursday it has bagged an order from state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to manufacture and supply power transformers, valued at US$62 million.

The scope of work includes design, manufacture, supply, construction and installation of the power transformers in the range of 30MVA to 268MVA. They will be installed in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. The project is aimed at enhancing the performance of PLN?s transmission grid.

The contract was secured through a highly competitive open book bid. CG was selected for this prestigious project due to its successful track record in Indonesia, backed by a global recognition of its technical expertise in manufacturing and supplying high-voltage transformers at the best quality to price ratio. This order also reinforces the existing strong relationship between CG and PLN. By way of these prestigious orders, CG has consistently built its reputation as a top quality provider of turnkey products and solutions in the Indonesian market, with approximately $93 million worth of orders already booked in the first half of the current year, the company said in a statement.

Power transformers are very critical equipment for PLN considering the present power situation in Indonesia. CG products meet the stringent quality parameters of PLN, particularly in terms of Partial Discharge, wherein its standards far exceed the IEC standards and the Degree of Polymerization, thus ensuring long lasting, trouble-free operations. Their compact design maximize space utility and achieve optimum energy efficiency. Through the deployment of CG?s power transformers, PLN will be able to lessen its dependence on the import of heavy equipment, while simultaneously executing a timely implementation of its transmission network strengthening program.

PLN with an installation base of 48 GW is the sole government-owned corporation in electricity generation, transmission and distribution in Indonesia. From 2013 to 2022, PLN has a long-term plan for an additional generating capacity of 59.5 GW, with a total estimated expenditure of around $125 billion. From 1993 onwards, CG has been regularly providing PLN?s generation and transmission divisions, power transformers in the range of 30MVA to 500MVA, with voltage levels up to 500kV. In the past, CG entered into a joint venture with PLN to manufacture high-voltage switchgear products of up to the 500 kV class, locally in Indonesia. Furthermore, CG has also invested more than $15 million to build a first of its kind 550kV Extra High Voltage Test Lab in Indonesia. This makes CG a preferred local partner in this region.

Commenting on this prestigious win, Avantha Group Company CG?s CEO and Managing Director Laurent Demortier said: ?We are honored to have PT PLN?s continued faith in us as a partner of choice and are well positioned to support them in their network strengthening goals. The CG edge lies in providing indigenously built products and turnkey services that reflect global standards, while suiting local conditions. We look forward to being a part of many more collaborative efforts that involve building robust power transmission networks, in Indonesia and the rest of Asia.?
