Chemical products used by Medco for EOR have passed laboratory tests

The surfactant and polymer chemical products to be used by PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk for its enhanced oil recovery (EOR) programs have passed laboratory tests, said Yanni Kussuryani, the Head of Research and Development Centre for Oil and Gas Technology (LEMIGAS) at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said.
Medco plans to apply enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology by injecting chemicals ? surfactants and polymers - into the reservoir to ramp up oil production at the block's maturing fields, Kaji-Semoga in Rimau block and Jene in South Sumatera basin. ?Medco can now carry on its EOR programs in those fields,? Yanni said.
Medco is currently undertaking preparatory works including building EOR facilities in the fields. Yanni said as for Medco EOR program, LEMIGAS expert staffs will be involved in monitoring its implementation.
Medco is planning to commence the EOR program this year, depending on the readiness of facilities on the ground.
Medco has 95 percent stake in Rimau block. The field is among the company?s largest oil fields. As of December 31, 2010, the block?s proven and probable gross reserves were around 52.7 million barrels of oil equivalence (mboe).
