US oil firm Chevron Corp. is seeking exploration period extension of Kisaran Block onshore North Sumatra.

?To further evaluate the prospect, Chevron is currently requesting BPMIGAS to extend Kisaran's exploration phase into another 4 year exploration period,? a Chevron IndoAsia Business Unit Spokesperson said in an e-mailed statement Thursday.

Chevron Pacific Indonesia, a unit of Chevron, is currently the operator of Kisaran Block along with its partner Pacific Oil & Gas with a 50% working interest, respectively.

Kisaran Block, located in Labuan Batu Regency- North Sumatra, was awarded in 2001 by the Government of Indonesia - with a 10-year firm commitment of US$ 13.25 million for 3D Seismic Work, Geological & Geophysical (G&G) Study and Drilling.

A local media reported on Thursday that Chevron is in the process of farming out part of interest in the block after unsatisfactory drilling results on the block last year. (godang)
