Chevron commences surfactant injection pilot project in Minas

PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia announced Friday the start of surfactant injection pilot project in Minas field to shed a light on whether this technology could push up more production off reserves that the conventional secondary recovery method has failed to bring to the surface.

This pilot project is another example of Chevron?s sustainable efforts to boost more recoverable reserves from the aging field, where Southeast Asia?s biggest secondary recovery method project ? through water flooding - has so far taken place.

?The pilot project using the surfactant technology of this scale is the first time ever. This project will provide a very crucial information about the feasibility of this technology for a full-blown commercial implementation at the Minas field,? said Hamid Batubara, President Director of Chevron Pacific Indonesia, in a statement.

The Minas field has been in production since 1954 and produced about 4.5 billion barrels of crude.
