Chevron commits $5m to fight HIV/AIDS in Indonesia

US oil, gas giant Chevron Corporation announced Tuesday it is partnering with the Government of Indonesia to fight HIV/AIDS.

Health Ministry?s Directorate of Directly Transmitted Disease Control will receive US$5 million in funding over three years as part of a Global Fund HIV/AIDS grant.

The contribution will support a comprehensive program, including education and information initiatives as well as tailored localized campaigns to prevent and control the spread of HIV/AIDS, the company?s statement said.

Chevron is the country?s number one oil producers from its Central Sumatra blocks. It is also the country?s biggest geothermal operator from its West Java working areas. (alex)
