Chevron committed to invest for long term in Indonesia

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of giant US energy company Chevron Corporation, John Watson, met with Vice President Boediono today, expressing the company?s commitment to invest for long term in Indonesia.

Speaking to reporters after holding a 20 minutes meeting with Boediono, Watson said that he discussed with the Vice President over Chevron's business activities in the past 85 years in Indonesia.

Chevron is the largest oil and geothermal producer in Indonesia and has been active in carrying out community development programs.

Watson said he told the Vice President that Chevron is committed to stay for another 85 years in Indonesia as the company sees great opportunities to invest in the country.

Spokesperson of the Vice President, Yopie Hidayat said Watson?s visit was a courtesy call. ?There were no talks about specific project or issues. The meeting lasted about 20 minutes,? said Yopie.

Apart from producing oil, Chevron Corporation through its subsidiary PT Chevron Geothermal & Power is developing a number of geothermal projects in Indonesia. In addition to its existing Darajat and Salak geothermal plants, Chevron Geothermal is currently developing a geothermal plant in Lampung Barat, called Souh-Sekincau geothermal plant.

The company has secured permit from the government. The company is developing the project with its local partner PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya, which holds 5 percent interest in PT Chevron Geothermal Suoh-Sekincau, the operator of Suoh-Sekincau geothermal plant. (romel/roffie)
