US oil major Chevron Corp. is currently developing a gas field in the southern aprt of East Kalimantan PSC with completion seen early next year.

Chevron East Kalimantan spokesperson Usman Slamet told Petromindo.Com on Wednesday that the Seturian gas field would produce 50 MMCFD at its peak rate. He said that gas from the field would be piped to Pertamina?s Balikpapan refinery in Balikpapan.

Currently, Pertamina gets its supply from Chevron?s Yakin and Sepinggan fields. ?Gas from those two fields will continue to decline due to dwindling reserves and Seturian will become new supply source for Balikpapan refinery,? he said. Sepinggan and Yakin are also located within East Kalimantan PSC.

Chevron?s gas supply contract with Pertamina will expire in the next few years and both parties are currently negotiating new contracts, he said.

Chevron is the operator of the block with 100 percent working interest.(alex)
