Chevron eyes Aceh geothermal concession

US super major Chevron Corp is interested to acquire a geothermal concession in Aceh.

?We expect the tender on Seulawah Agam prospect to be opened in April this year,? Chevron Geothermal Indonesia Policy, Government and Public Affairs Manager Usman Slamet told Petromindo.Com on Monday.

The prospect is located in Aceh Besar regency.

He did not give detail about potential electricity to be generated from the project, but industry sources said the prospect could generate 165MW of electricity.

Chevron is also bidding to acquire Sorik Marapi-Roburan-Sampuraga geothermal prospect in North Sumatra.

Usman also said Chevron is currently evaluating possibility to expand capacity of its Darajat geothermal plant in West Java by another 110 MW. ?Internal evaluation is underway with completion of evaluation expected in December 2010,? he said.

Currently Darajat has capacity of 259 MW with 55 MW sold to state electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) in the form of steam. (godang)
