Chevron eyes geothermal project in W. Sumatra

PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI), the country?s largest oil producer, has expressed its interest to develop two geothermal fields with combined capacity of 1,500 megawatt in West Sumatra.
CPI president director Abdul Hamid Batubara said in Padang, West Sumatra, on Wednesday that the company was interested in developing the geothermal fields in the province.
?But we still need to carry out technical study before making any decision,? he said, adding that the company would have also wait for the opening of the tender for the development of the geothermal fields.
Chevron operates two geothermal projects in Indonesia. In West Java, Chevron operates the wholly owned Salak geothermal field with a total power-generation capacity of 377 MW and also holds a 95-percent interest in a power generation company that operates the Darajat geothermal contract area with a total capacity of 259 MW.
