Chevron issued with license for new geothermal prospect in Lampung

PT. Chevron Geothermal Suoh-Sekincau, a 95-per cent indirectly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, announced on Wednesday that it has been issued with a license to explore, develop and operate the Suoh-Sekincau geothermal prospect in Lampung.

Along with its Indonesian tender consortium partner PT. Austindo Nusantara Jaya, which owns a 5-percent interest in PT. Chevron Geothermal Suoh Sekincau, Chevron is acquiring an area of approximately 320 square kilometers. The Mining Business License was signed by the Lampung Barat regent and issued to PT. Chevron Geothermal Suoh-Sekincau at a ceremony in Liwa today that include regional dignitaries and community leaders.

?As the world?s largest producer of geothermal energy we welcome the opportunity to apply our knowledge to assess a new prospect and support Indonesia?s geothermal development goals,? said Stephen W. Green, managing director, Chevron IndoAsia Business Unit.

?The success of our consortium?s highly competitive bid demonstrates that geothermal energy in Indonesia has a bright future as the demand for reliable and renewable energy grows,? said Keli Taureka, president director of PT. Chevron Geothermal Suoh-Sekincau.

?The development of the geothermal energy resource will positively impact the growth of West Lampung region, particularly for those communities near the geothermal prospect location,? said West Lampung Regent, Muklis Basri.

Chevron operates four geothermal projects in Indonesia and the Philippines, which supply 1,273 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy to millions of people. In West java, Indonesia, Chevron operates the wholly owned Salak geothermal field with a total power-generation capacity of 377 MW and also holds a 95-percent interest in a power generation company that operates the Darajat geothermal contract area with a total capacity of 259 MW.
