This was said by Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar as reported by Bisnis.com on Saturday.
Arcandra said the government is still assessing the contract extension request, looking into a number of factors such as the government?s policy with regards to the Mahakam block. The government has decided to transfer the Mahakam block to state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina when the current contract of Total and Inpex expire by the end of next year.
The Rokan block, 100 percent owned by Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI), is home to the large Duri, Minas, and Bekasap fields. Duri is one of the largest steam flood operations in the world. Minas is where it all began for CPI. The oil first produced by CPI in Sumatra was the world-famous ?Sumatran Light? that flowed from the Minas field in 1952. (*)
