PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia has suspended about 750 employees as part of efficiency drive amid the current oil price drop, Kontan reported on Tuesday.

The paper quoted Spokesman of upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas Elan Biantoro as saying that Chevron has asked for permission from the government to reduce the number of workers via two programs including early retirement program and Chevron internal selection program.

He said that of the target to reduce 1,500 workers, the company has suspended 750 employees.

Elan said that amid the current weak oil price, Chevron wants to reduce the size of its organization. However, he said the employee reduction process must be based on the agreement of Chevron and the employees. (*)
