BP Migas, the regulatory body for oil and gas exploration and production, has approved the plan of development (POD) proposed by American oil giant Chevron Texaco for the development of its Duri 12 and 13 oil and gas fields in Riau province, Investor Daily reported on Thursday.
Kardaya Warnika said Wednesday that Chevron would begin the drilling activities on at least 600 wells in the two onshore gas and oil fields next year. "The number which would be drilled could be increased to 1,000 in the following years," he added.
He said that the lack of rig supply in the market would not cause a problem in Chevron's exploration activities because, unlike offshore fields, the development of onshore Duri 12 and 13 fields would not require rig facilities. (*)
