Chevron to carry out preliminary survey of Aceh geothermal potential

PT Jasa Daya Chevron, a unit of Chevron Indonesia, has been assigned by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to carry out preliminary survey of geothermal potential in Geureudong, Aceh, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

Paul E. Mustakim, Director of Jaya Daya Chevron, said in a statement that the 12-month survey work will cover geological, geophysical, and geochemical aspects in the Geureundong Mountain, covering an area of 108,500 hectares, encompassing three regencies including Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, and North Aceh.

Chevron has been developing geothermal energy in Indonesia since the 1980s, producing electricity with total capacity of 647 MW through Chevron Geothermal Salak, Ltd. (377 MW) and Chevron Geothermal Indonesia, Ltd.(270 MW).
