Chevron to resume underwater seismic work in East Kalimantan

PT Chevron Indo Company, the local unit of U.S. oil giant Chevron, plans to resume underwater seismic work in Bontang, East Kalimantan, the local Kaltim Post daily reported Monday.
The plan was disclosed by company officials during a meeting with the Bontang administration last week.
The Chevron officials said that the seismic work was a continuation of the similar activity carried out in 2003. Company public relations officer Rudino Rahmat said that prior to resuming the seismic work, Chevron would carry out awareness campaign program particularly to avoid misperception among the local residents,some of whom think that seismic work could cause harm to the environment.
Meanwhile, the paper said that the Bontang administration supported Chevron's plan. (*)
