World energy giant ChevronTexaco Overseas said Tuesday that its Indonesian unit, PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia, would continue doing business in Riau despite rising terrorist threats in the country, local daily Riau Post reported.

?We feel sure that the local government and security apparatuses will be able to keep the situation under control,? ChevronTexaco Overseas president director George Kirkland told reporters after meeting with Riau provincial governor Saleh Djasit in Pekanbaru.

Last Tuesday, a car bomb exploded at a JW Marriot hotel in central Jakarta, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 100.

Kirkland, who was on a routine visit to Riau, said the region was an important project area of ChevronTexaco.

Meanwhile, Saleh assured Kirkland in their meeting that local authorities would do their best to maintain peace and security in Riau.

Caltex is Indonesia?s largest oil producer. (*)
