China import rises 62% in May

Asia?s hungry coal country China imported 26.17 million tons of coal in May, a 62.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to China Customs data release as quoted by Baiinfo.com.
It said that the coking coal accounted for 3.87 million tons (mt) of the total, up 81.4 percent year on year; thermal coal 9.65 mt, up 180.5 percent; brown coal 5.64 mt, up 120.7 percent and anthracite 3.13 mt, down 20.2 percent. Other types of coal products made up the balance 3.88 mt.
According to the Customs data, China imported a total of 112.73 mt in the first five months, up 67.8 percent year on year of which the coking coal accounted for 21.15 mt; thermal coal 34.9 mt; brown coal 22.13 million mt and anthracite 15.7 million mt.(*)
