Chinese and Indian importers are exploring opportunities to buy coal from PT Bukit Asam (PTBA) in a large quantity to fulfill the need of industries and power plants in the two countries, Bisnis Indonesia Daily reported on Monday.
India needs 60 million tons of coal this year, but PTBA has not given any commitment to the demand.
“Out of the demand, we may be capable of fulfilling only 200,000 – 400,000 tons. The limited transportation facility, mainly trains, makes us unable to meet the demand,” said company president Sukrisno.
The company set the production and marketing targets at 10 million tons and 11 million tons respectively this year. To meet the target, PT BA would extract coals from mining sites in Kalimantan. (*)
