Wednesday, July 3 2002 - 12:56 PM WIB

Bidding on China's first LNG supply contract in very late stages, according to BP's China president Gary Dirks.

"We expect that before too much longer the Chinese government will announce the winner," Gary Dirks was quoted by Dow Jones as saying on Wednesday.

Decision among 3 consortia led by BP, Royal Dutch/Shell, and ExxonMobil had been expected by June, but delay unsurprising given contract's scale and potential effect on relations with would-be suppliers Indonesia, Qatar, Australia. (*)
