Singapore Exchange-listed oilfield service company China Petrotech Holdings Limited announced on Tuesday that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Petroservice Engineering Inc., has signed a joint study agreement (JSA) with PT. Pertamina EP to explore the use of various Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technologies to optimise production at Pertamina’s existing matured oil fields at Tapian Timur and Dahor Blocks, both are located in South Kalimantan.

Both blocks are currently producing at 400 BPD by use of primary recovery. The two oil blocks have a combined remaining proven oil reserves (P90) of 48.9 million barrels. There are 32 production wells in the two blocks, of which only 6 wells are still producing, said the company.

The company said it would l work with its technology partner, EOR Research Center of the PetroChina Group, to conduct EOR screening, review of geophysical and geological configuration, production analysis and data validation, economic evaluation, area selection, core sample analysis, reservoir simulation, etc (Phase 1 of JSA). After the completion of the first phase of joint study and subject to the approval of BPMIGAS, Petrotech will then carry out field trail engineering and field pilot projects (Phase 2 of JSA) and subsequently implement a full EOR program if results shows that the project is economically feasible.

“The success of the implementation of the EOR projects is still preliminary. At the end of the first phase of the joint study which is expected to take between 6 and 9 months, BP MIGAS will evaluate the result of the JSA,” the company said.(alex)
