One of China's largest state-owned firms, China Power Investment Corp., has expressed interest to help finance the construction of smelters in Indonesia, a minister said here on Monday.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik made the statement after a meeting with visiting Vice President of China Power Investment Corp., Xia Cong, at his office.
"The firm has not determined the amount of investment yet, but asked (for information) for which smelter it can finance," Jero told a press conference at the energy ministry. He said that it could be smelter of bauxite, aluminum or other mineral ores.
The firm has also committed to invest US$17 billion on hydro-powered power plant in North Kalimantan, according to Jero.
